The Desert National Wildlife Range dominates the western half of this Nevada landscape, preserving a segment of the Mojave Desert as it appeared in the mid-1980s. The terrain is defined by the high elevations of the Las Vegas Range and the Arrow Canyon Range, which hem in the broad, arid basins of Hidden Valley and Dry Lake Valley.
