Magdalena sits at the edge of the high desert and mountain terrain, serving as a gateway to the southern reaches of the Cibola National Forest. The landscape is defined by its complex drainage network, where the Arroyo Gato and Arroyo Landavaso cut through the arid terrain, feeding into the Landavaso Reservoir. This 2020 survey reveals an environment shaped by water management and aviation, featuring both the Magdalena Airport and the Rancho Magdalena Airport. The network of forest roads, including Forest 10 Rd and FR 249, provides access to various livestock and wildlife watering points such as SW Hale Tank and Hale Tank. To the south and east, the elevation climbs toward Cerro Pelon, where natural water sources like Texas Spring and Wet Weather Spring emerge near the rugged paths of Agua Frio Canyon and Mill Canyon.
