Ash Mountain and Little Costilla Peak dominate this high-altitude landscape along the border of Taos and Colfax counties. The terrain is defined by a series of prominent peaks and canyons, including Powderhouse Canyon and Harry Bremmer Canyon, which serve as headwaters for numerous drainage systems. These alpine environments, such as Elk Meadows, feed into essential watercourses like Middle Ponil Cr and Shuree Cr, which flow through the southern reaches of the Cimarron Range.
