Pawnee National Grassland dominates the landscape of this northeastern Colorado plains region, where the high prairie meets the boundary of Weld and Logan Counties. The terrain is defined by a series of ephemeral drainages and intermittent water sources, most notably Lemon-Erickson Reservoir Number 1, which provides a rare point of collected water in an otherwise arid expanse. Small-scale water features like Spring Draw and the winding courses of Twomile Creek and Cedar Creek cut through the sections, reflecting the essential role of water management for life on the grasslands. The settlement at Westplains stands as a focal point near the northeastern edge of the sheet, while a rigid grid of county roads, including Co Road 52 and Co Road 7, facilitates movement across the vast, open allotments of the public land survey system.
