About this map

The high plains of Northeastern Colorado are defined here by the winding drainages of Cottonwood Creek and Pawnee Creek, which carve across the dry landscape toward the Logan and Weld County border. In the late 1970s, this area remained largely open rangeland, marked primarily by the water management of the East Stoneham Reservoir and the Pawnee Inlet No 2. These features, alongside Raymer Creek, indicate a landscape highly dependent on seasonal water flow and irrigation infrastructure typical of the region's agricultural history. Scattered throughout the townships, numerous Well sites and occasional oil infrastructure like a Drill Hole or Oil Well reflect the persistent mineral exploration and resource extraction that characterized the local economy alongside traditional ranching.
