Bartlett serves as a central hub for this portion of the White Mountain National Forest, where the valley of the Saco River meets an extensive network of historical farm roads and timber trails. The settlement at Notchland and the riverside community of Sawyers River mark important points along the Crawford Notch Rd corridor, a route defined by the steep elevation of Bemis Ridge and the Montalban Ridge.
