About this map

Natural Bridge Caverns and the subterranean formations of Bat Cave anchor this landscape along the Comal and Bexar County line. Surveyed in the late 1960s, the terrain is defined by the winding course of Cibolo Creek and the bifurcating waters of West Fork Dry Comal Creek. The settlement pattern is largely rural, marked by numerous family burial grounds including Romple Cem, Weilbacher Cem, and Gerhardt Cem, which reflect the localized genealogy of this limestone-carved region. Transport and industry are concentrated in the south, where the small community of Ogden sits at the junction of the Missouri Pacific and Missouri Kansas Texas railroads. Near the rail lines, a large Quarry and industrial Water Tank suggest the extraction-based economy common to the Balcones Escarpment fringe during this era.
