Batavia serves as the northern anchor for this landscape, where the dense urban street grid around Elm St and Elm St gives way to the agricultural expanses of Genesee County. The city’s history is preserved in its numerous burial grounds, including the large Batavia Cem and Saint Joseph Cem. To the south, the terrain becomes increasingly defined by the winding course of Tonawanda Creek and its tributary, Little Tonawanda Creek, which pass through smaller rural hamlets like West Bethany and Linden.
