The Owyhee Wild and Scenic River snakes through the high desert of the eastern Oregon and Idaho borderlands, carving the deep Owyhee Canyon through a landscape defined by volcanic geology and remote rangeland. This modern survey illustrates the complex water management system of the arid interior, where features like West Beaver Charlie Reservoir, North Oregon Hill Reservoir, and Oregon Lake Reservoir capture seasonal runoff in a country otherwise dominated by dry hills and flats. The eastern edge of the sheet follows the state line between Malheur County, Oregon and Owyhee County, Idaho, a boundary largely invisible on the ground but for the occasional maintenance of the Oregon Lake Reservoir Rd. Land use is primarily conservation and resource-based, evidenced by the protected Owyhee River Wilderness and the industrial footprint of the South Toppin Butte Pit.
