Modoc National Forest and Fremont National Forest converge along the high volcanic plateaus of the California-Oregon state line. This high-altitude landscape is defined by its water management and grazing history, evidenced by features like Beaver Mountain Reservoir and specialized watering points such as Lower Muldoon Tank and Rocky Flat Tank. Significant peaks including Beaver Mtn and Muldoon Mtn overlook a series of broad meadows and depressions, notably Long Meadow, Round Willows, and Island Meadow. The southeastern sector contains the named sites of Grizzlie Place and Old Grizzlie North, linked by the industrial and access corridors of Weyerhaeuser Road and South Main. Numerous springs, including Coffee Mill Spring and Tournquist Spring, emphasize the critical role of water in this timber and range environment.
