The high terrain of Beck Mountain and the surrounding peaks of the San Isabel National Forest dominate this 1960s perspective of the Custer County high country. The landscape transitions from the peaks of Snowslide Mountain and Blizzardine Peak down into the pastoral opening of the Wet Mountain Valley. Human presence is marked by isolated outposts such as the Henrich Ranch and the Beck School, which served the scattered families living along the upper reaches of Grape Creek.
