Greenstone Ridge forms the geological spine of this remote island landscape, rising from the cold waters of Lake Superior within the Isle Royale National Park. This survey reveals an intricate archipelago of long, narrow islands and sheltered inlets, including the namesake Belle Harbor and the neighboring Tobin Harbor and Rock Harbor. The terrain is characterized by linear ridges and valleys that dictate the placement of backcountry routes like the Greenstone Ridge Trl and Mount Franklin Trl. These paths connect significant high points such as Mt Franklin to the intricate shoreline of Five Finger Bay and Duncan Bay. The geography of the Isle Royale Wilderness is defined by these basaltic ridges, which create a series of inland water bodies like Patterson Lake and Lake Ahmik, accessible only by the network of trails shown in high detail.
