1985 Map of McCargoe Cove

USGS Topo · Published 1986

About this map

The Minong Mine anchors the western side of the McCargoe Cove inlet, representing the deep industrial and geologic history of this portion of Isle Royale National Park. Surveyed in the mid-1980s, the map reveals a landscape defined by parallel ridges like Greenstone Ridge and Minong Ridge, which dictate the orientation of long, narrow water bodies such as Sargent Lake and Angleworm Lake. The maritime character of the Keweenaw coastline is prominent, with the sheltered waters of Robinson Bay and the narrow passage of the Amygdaloid Channel providing navigable routes through the archipelago. Recreational and administrative infrastructure is visible at the McCargoe Cove Campground and the nearby Ranger Station, while the Minong Ridge Trail follows the high ground above the rocky shoreline of Lake Superior.
