Bena sits as the central settlement in this portion of the Chippewa National Forest, situated between the massive reaches of Lake Winnibigoshish to the north and Leech Lake to the southwest. The landscape is defined by a dense network of wetlands and smaller water bodies like Hole-in-Bog Lake, Sixmile Lake, and Drumbeater Lake. This 2016 survey documents the modern intersection of conservation and recreation, showing an extensive trail system including the Soo Line ATV Trail and the Pipeline Snowmobile Trail. Historical land use is visible in the presence of an Aband Rd and the Fairview Cem south of the main township. The map provides a detailed record of forest service infrastructure, including Forest Rte 3033 and Forest Rte 2165, which navigate the complex drainage systems of Sixmile Brook and Drumbeater Cr.
