Bena sits as a central junction within the northern reaches of the Chippewa National Forest, serving as a gateway between the expansive waters of Lake Winnibigoshish to the north and Leech Lake to the southwest. The landscape is defined by its glacial hydrology, featuring numerous smaller bodies of water such as Drumbeater Lake, Sixmile Lake, and Hole-in-Bog Lake. Transport across this wetland terrain relies on a network of modern forest routes and specialized trails. The mapping of the Soo Line GIA Snowmobile Trail and the Soo Line ATV Trail indicates the repurposing of historical transportation corridors for recreational use. Cultural markers are sparse but significant, including the Fairview Cem located south of the main settlement near Drumbeater Cr, which provides a focal point for genealogical interest in this forested region.
