Bennetts Point serves as the primary outpost in this coastal landscape where the Ashepoo River and South Edisto River converge near Saint Helena Sound. The geography is defined by a dense network of tidal creeks and marshes, including the Intracoastal Waterway and various shortcuts like Fenwick Cut and Watts Cut. Much of the northern portion is preserved within the Ernest F Hollings Ace Basin National Wildlife Refuge, protecting large landmasses such as Bear Island and Jehossee Island.
