About this map

The Bering Glacier and the massive Bagley Ice Field dominate this 1951 provisional survey of the coastal Alaskan wilderness. Stretching from the Chugach Mountains across to the Malaspina Glacier, the landscape is a complex network of ice, peaks, and glacial rivers. Human activity is sparse and concentrated along the shoreline of the Gulf of Alaska, most notably at Cape Yakataga and the nearby Yakataga Airport. Remote outpost life is signaled by a few isolated labels for a Cabin along the coast and at Sunshine Pt.
