Big Craggies Botanical Area centers this landscape in the Klamath Mountains, defined by sharp ridgelines and the winding course of the Chetco River. The terrain is characterized by high-elevation plateaus and openings such as High Prairie, Upper Mislatnah Prairie, and Lately Prairie, which stand in contrast to the steep drainages of Mislatnah Creek and Collier Creek. This 2011 survey records a remote interior of Josephine County where human footprints are limited to established outposts and Forest Service corridors.
