Big Horse Basin Gap and Little Horse Basin Gap define the high desert topography of Owyhee County in this 2010 survey. The landscape is dominated by the deeply incised drainage networks of Big Jacks Creek and Little Jacks Creek, which carve through the volcanic plateau. These watercourses are critical features in an otherwise arid environment, dictating the movement of both wildlife and early travelers through the basin. In the southwestern portion of the map, Rattlesnake Creek adds to the complex hydrological pattern of the region. The map illustrates the sparsely developed nature of this corner of Idaho, where the primary infrastructure consists of remote tracks and fence lines, preserving the expansive character of the basin floor and its surrounding geologic gaps.
