Snake Range peaks dominate the northern topography of this Great Basin landscape, where high elevations transition into the broad expanse of Hamlin Valley. The terrain is defined by the protected lands of the Humboldt National Forest, which covers the rugged northern half of the quadrangle and includes the steep drainage of West Fork Canyon. Hydrology is central to the area's identity, as seen in the eponymous Big Springs and its outflow, Big Springs Cr, which flow toward the Nevada-Utah border. The southern portion of the map is marked by the intermittent paths of Big Spring Wash, illustrating the arid drainage patterns typical of this high-desert region. This 2018 survey also delineates the jurisdictional boundary between White Pine and Lincoln counties, highlighting the remote nature of this portion of eastern Nevada served by White Pine Co Road 44.
