The Continental Divide serves as the focal point of this high-altitude landscape, tracing the border between Idaho and Montana. On the northern slopes, the Centennial Valley extends across the landscape, drained by Peet Cr and Bean Cr. The transition from the valley floor to the peaks is marked by the Western Centennial Mountains and the prominent Big Table Mountain, which rises above the surrounding Targhee National Forest.
