Nehalem Valley serves as the central artery for this portion of the Northern Oregon Coast Range, where the Nehalem River meanders past small rural settlements and timber-rich hillsides. In the late 1970s, the landscape is defined by the intersection of forest management and early settler remnants, with the Clatsop State Forest covering much of the western terrain.
