Milk River and its meandering channel dominate the southern reach of this landscape, defining a valley carved by glacial and fluvial processes. The importance of water management in this arid northern Montana terrain is evident through the Frenchman Irrigation Company Canal and McChesney Reservoir, which support local agricultural efforts. Named ranching homesteads such as Nelson's Ranch and Snieder's Ranch are connected by a network of rural routes including June Bjornberg Rd and Milk River Rd. The terrain is deeply incised by numerous coulees, such as Anderson Coulee and Snieder Coulee, which drain toward the river and Frenchman Creek. Scattered natural water sources like North Spring and Taylor Spring provided vital points for early settlers and livestock in an area where the Bjornberg Bridge serves as a critical crossing point.
