Moshannon Creek carves a deep boundary between Centre and Clearfield counties, defining a landscape shaped by both industry and conservation. In the north, the small settlements of Grassflat, Peale, and Gorton sit near the winding banks of Grassflat Run and Laurel Run, reflecting the area's long-standing connection to local resources. The central and southern portions of the map are dominated by the extensive recreational and infrastructure footprint of Black Moshannon Lake and the Mid-State Airport. A dense network of trails and roads, including the Allegheny Front Trail (South), Ski Slope Trail, and Snowmobile Trail, crisscrosses the high plateaus and hollows like Sawdust Hollow and Panther Hollow. This 2016 survey documents the modern state of these highlands, where natural springs like Arctic Springs and remote landmarks such as Hunters Rocks remain preserved within the state's forest system.
