The US Navy Survival Escape and Evasion Training Facility occupies the high-altitude terrain in the southern portion of this quadrangle, illustrating the military utility of Franklin County’s most isolated peaks during the late twentieth century. Dominating the landscape is the namesake Black Nubble, flanked by the massive elevations of Crocker Mountain and Mount Redington. These peaks form a significant portion of the Redington Pond Range, where the steep contour intervals highlight the complex drainage systems of Nash Stream and the South Br Dead River.
