About this map

Black Spring and Warm Spring provide critical water sources in the arid central Nevada landscape captured during this 1970s field study. The geography is defined by the broad Ione Valley, which sits between the towering Shoshone Mts to the east and the Cedar Mountains to the west. The drainage patterns of Ione Wash and Golden Wash trace the natural path of seasonal runoff through the valley floor. Evidence of the region's mining heritage is present near the Royston Hills in the southern portion of the map, where a lone Prospect indicates the area's geological potential. A single Jeep Trail provides the primary access through the desert terrain, crossing the county line between Nye Co and Mineral Co. This map offers a clear look at the topographic character of a remote basin-and-range environment before modern developments.
