Bitterroot National Forest and Salmon National Forest meet along the high-elevation divide marking the state line between Idaho and Montana. This remote backcountry is defined by a dense network of pack trails, including the Storm Ridge Trl and the Squaretop West Horse Trl, which navigate the steep drainage systems of the Bitterroot Mountains. Significant water features like Line Lake and Reynolds Lake sit tucked within the ridges, feeding creeks such as Blue Joint Creek and Wilkerson Creek. The southern portion of the map transition into the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness, where prominent landmarks like Mist Peak and the high point at Blue Joint overlook a landscape largely untouched by modern road infrastructure, preserving the primitive character of the northern Rockies.
