Cibola National Forest and the Apache Kid Wilderness dominate this high-elevation landscape in the San Mateo Mountains. The terrain is defined by a series of prominent summits including Blue Mtn, West Blue Mtn, Teepee Peak, and Milligan Peak. A complex network of drainage systems, such as San Mateo Canyon, Water Canyon, and Deep Canyon, carves through the mountains, creating a topography of steep ridges and isolated saddles like Cyclone Saddle and Bull Saddle.
