The Sam D Hamilton-Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge dominates the landscape of this region where Oktibbeha, Winston, and Noxubee counties meet. This intricate wetland environment is defined by a complex hydraulic system including Bluff Lake, Loakfoma Lake, and a series of managed impoundments such as Green Timber Reservoir Number One and Number Four. The Noxubee River and numerous tributaries like Talking Warrior Creek and Tobacco Juice Creek meander through the refuge, creating a distinct mosaic of sloughs and bottomlands.
