Pamlico Sound dominates this coastal survey, where the low-lying marshlands of Hyde County meet the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean. The shoreline is deeply indented by a series of significant water bodies, including Juniper Bay, Cunning Harbor Bay, and the twin recesses of West Bluff Bay and East Bluff Bay. These maritime features define the geography of the peninsula, which terminates at prominent landforms such as Bluff Point and Drum Point.
