The Uinta River carves a deep central corridor through this section of the Ashley National Forest, serving as the primary drainage for a high-elevation landscape dotted with alpine basins. To the west, a series of glacial lakes including Bollie Lake and Lower Chain Lake sit beneath the high ridges, while the eastern portion is dominated by the High Uintas Wilderness and the steep walls of Rock Canyon.
