Boltsfork and the surrounding rural valleys of Boyd County are defined by a complex network of creeks and ridge-top cemeteries. The landscape is carved by the East Fork Little Sandy River and Bolts Fork, creating a series of narrow hollows where small settlements like Mavity and Garner are situated. This modern survey shows a region deeply rooted in family history, evidenced by the high density of small burial grounds tucked into the hillsides, such as Prichard Cem, McGlowthen Cem, and the Bates and Crum Cem. Prominent terrain features like Laurel Ridge and Laurel Gap overlook the winding roads and creek beds that have dictated local travel for generations. The boundary between Boyd and Lawrence counties crosses the southern portion of the sheet, where the land rises toward the headwaters of Durbin Creek.
