Boonville sits in the southwestern corner of this landscape, where Anderson Cr and Soda Cr converge amidst a network of rural roads such as Rossi Rd and Schoenahl Rd. The terrain is defined by a series of prominent ridges, including Sherman Ridge, North Ridge, and Black Oak Ridge, which divide the many drainages of Indian Cr and Robinson Cr. These high ridges are punctuated by unique clearings known locally as openings, such as Big Opening, Shoemake Opening, and Jakes Opening. The northern reaches of the map show the rugged transition into Rocky Ridge and Alaska Ridge. These features suggest a landscape traditionally used for ranching and timber, where water sources like Soda Spring and Laurel Spring provided essential points of interest in the elevated backcountry of Mendocino County.
