Crowleys Ridge rises distinctly above the flat alluvial plains of the Arkansas Delta in this study of Clay County. The topographical contrast is sharp, as the wooded, undulating terrain of the ridge meets the heavily engineered drainage network of the lowlands to the west. This landscape transition is defined by a series of man-made waterways, including Cache River Ditch Number 1 and Ditch Number 20, which were constructed to reclaim the bottomlands for agriculture.
