Juniper Mountain Ranch sits at the headwaters of numerous drainages in this high-desert portion of Malheur County, where the landscape is defined by its vital water sources and volcanic peaks. The topography is dominated by Juniper Mountain and Cottonwood Mountain, which serve as the anchors for a network of seasonal creeks including Pole Creek, Black Creek, and Brady Creek. This 2011 survey captures the infrastructure of the ranching economy, showing how high-altitude springs like Homestead Spring, Chokecherry Spring, and Swede Spring have been utilized to support life in this arid environment. The presence of Upper Buckbrush Reservoir and Buckbrush Reservoir along Buckbrush Creek further illustrates the management of the watershed. Access to the interior is provided by a few improved tracks, notably Juniper Mountain Rd and Buckbrush Rd, which connect the isolated N G Horse Camp and various grazing lands across Thorn Flat.
