About this map

The Bear River Range dominates this landscape northeast of Huntsville, where high-elevation canyons drain into the eastern edge of Ogden Valley. Complex water management systems are central to the lower elevations, including the Ogden Valley Canal, Mountain Canal, and Huntsville South Ditch, which redirect the South Fork Ogden River for agricultural use. The terrain is marked by sharp relief between the peaks and deep drainages such as Geertsen Canyon, Maple Canyon, and Kelley Canyon. Extensive public land within the Cache National Forest covers the majority of the mountainous area, while the valley floor shows a grid of local roads and the Flying R Airport. This map captures the intersection of high mountain wilderness and the irrigation-dependent settlement patterns characteristic of the Wasatch Hinterlands.
