Gila National Forest encompasses the high country of Grant County, where the Gila River cuts through the southeastern corner of this mountainous region. The landscape is defined by its complex drainage network, including the deep incision of the Ash Creek Box and the numerous canyons like Clyde Canyon, Blue Rock Canyon, and Moonhull Canyon that feed the river system. Topography is marked by prominent summits such as Tampico Peak, Telegraph Mtn, and the distinctive Elephant Back Mtn.
