Fort Peck Lake defines the northwestern corner of this landscape in Garfield County, where the Missouri River breaks into the high plains of central Montana. The terrain is characterized by a complex network of dry washes and drainage systems, notably Burdick Coulee and Jasper Coulee, which carve through the high ground. This 2014 survey documents the rugged topography between the major reservoir and the prominent Piney Buttes to the northeast.
