The Continental Divide serves as a natural and political spine for this high-altitude landscape where Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming converge. This high wilderness is a junction of major federal lands, including the southwest corner of Yellowstone National Park, and portions of both Gallatin National Forest and Targhee National Forest. The terrain is characterized by massive features like the Moose Creek Plateau and the Madison Plateau, dissected by deep drainages such as Black Canyon and Echo Canyon.
