Routt National Forest encompasses much of this high-elevation landscape in Jackson County, where the topography is defined by the sharp elevations of the Rabbit Ears Range. The area is a critical watershed defined by a complex network of man-made irrigation features, including the Allard Ditch, Cochrane Ditch, and Slack-Weiss Reservoir, which manage the flow of Buffalo Cr and its tributaries. These structures illustrate the long-standing importance of water management for downstream ranching or agriculture in the high country.
