Burnt Mountain rises as a central landmark within this portion of the Tonopah Desert, surrounded by a landscape defined by water infrastructure and a growing grid of rural roads. The most prominent modern engineering feature is the Central Arizona Project Aqueduct, which cuts across the arid basin to the north and south of the peak. To the northwest, the foothills of the Big Horn Mountains descend into the desert floor. This 2014 survey documents the intersection of vast open terrain with the encroachment of residential planning, evidenced by the named road network in the southwest, including W Salome Hwy, W Camelback Rd, and several numbered avenues. These routes reflect the surveyed township and range lines that organize this corner of Maricopa County.
