The Niobrara River flows through the southern portion of this landscape at the Boyd and Holt County line, joined by the Keya Paha River as it winds through the breaks. This area of northern Boyd County is defined by the drainage systems of Ponca Cr and Dizzy Cr, which cut through the high plains topography near the South Dakota border. Land use is reflected in water management features like Mohr Reservoir and Reiman Reservoir, which serve the agricultural operations spread across the townships. The rural road network, including Harvest Rd and Glacier Rd, follows the section lines of the Public Land Survey System, providing access to remote ranching and farming tracts in this part of the Great Plains.
