Canby and Linwood anchor this section of Adair County, where the landscape is defined by the headwaters and branches of the Nodaway River system. The land follows a regular section-line grid of rural roads such as Fallow Ave and Gibbon Ave, which intersect at right angles across the undulating terrain. The northern edge of the map is dominated by the modern transport corridor of Interstate 80, featuring the Adair West Bound Rest Area and its eastbound counterpart near the crossing of 105th St. Several watercourses, including the Middle Nodaway River and Ninemile Cr, carve natural paths through the structured agricultural plots, reflecting the drainage patterns that have dictated local land use since the nineteenth century. These waterways, including smaller tributaries like Rutt Br, provide a counterpoint to the rigid human geometry of the road network.
