The Green River carves a dramatic path through this section of Moffat County, marking the transition from the open valley of Browns Park into the steep-walled Canyon of Lodore. This corridor is defined by its conservation history, split between Browns Park National Wildlife Refuge in the north and the northern boundary of Dinosaur National Monument further south. The river's descent is punctuated by treacherous navigational points such as Upper Disaster Falls and Lower Disaster Falls, landmarks of the early exploration of the West.
