The Santa Lucia Range meets the Pacific Ocean along this dramatic stretch of the Monterey and San Luis Obispo county line. Centered on the remote community of Gorda, the map shows the mid-century infrastructure of the Big Sur coast, including the Coast Road and several maritime and forest service landmarks. To the north, the small settlement of Plaskett sits near the Pacific Valley Sch and the Pacific Valley Guard Station, while further south, the Salmon Creek Ranger Sta and the landing at Evans mark key points of access. Inland, the high ridges of Los Padres National Forest give way to the sprawling Hunter Liggett Military Reservation, which dominates the eastern portion of the sheet. Notable local sites include the Polar Star Mine near Ragged Point and the San Miguelito Ranch near the Nacimiento River.
