The Manzano Mountains dominate this high-altitude landscape, where the rugged topography is defined by steep ridges and an intricate network of canyons. The Cibola National Forest and Manzano Mountain Wilderness protect much of this terrain, which rises to prominent heights at Osha Peak and Gallo Peak. Scientific and technical presence in this remote area is marked by the Capilla Peak Observatory and a nearby Electronic Site, perched near the crest where visibility is optimal.
