Caprock Mountain serves as the dominant landmark in this southwestern New Mexico landscape, situated at the jurisdictional boundary between Grant and Hidalgo counties. The terrain is defined by complex drainage systems including Corral Canyon and the South Fork Corral Canyon in the northeast, while the White Rock Canyon cuts through the central region. Sparse human infrastructure is concentrated around ranching and energy, evidenced by the Box Canyon Windmill and the industrial corridor of the El Paso Gas Line crossing the southern sections. An intricate network of local tracks, such as Nichols Canyon Rd and Whiterock Canyon Rd, provides the only access through the prominent high points of Red Hill and the Black Hills.
