Caprock Mtn rises above the high desert landscape of the New Mexico borderlands, anchoring a region defined by dramatic canyons and drainage systems. The survey area straddles the boundary between Grant and Hidalgo Counties, showcasing a network of seasonal watercourses such as Caprock Prong and Willow Draw. The arid environment necessitated specialized infrastructure for ranching and utility transport, evidenced by the Box Canyon Windmill and the significant corridor for the El Paso Gas Line crossing the southern portion of the quadrangle. Local transportation is facilitated by an extensive system of named canyon roads, including White Rock Canyon Rd and Nichols Canyon Rd, which navigate the complex terrain around White Rock Canyon and isolated peaks like Red Hill and Lone Mtn.
