About this map

The Peabody River valley forms a central corridor through this section of the White Mountain National Forest, where late 20th-century recreation and historic mountaineering infrastructure converge. The landscape is defined by the high peaks of the Carter-Moriah Range, including the massive Carter Dome and Middle Carter Mtn, connected by the high-elevation Appalachian Trail and the remote Imp Shelter. At the base of these peaks, the Glen House serves as a landmark at the foot of the Washington Auto Road (Toll), a route that represents over a century of motorized and carriage access to the higher summits.
