The West Branch Sacandaga River and the main Sacandaga River dominate this northern Hamilton County landscape, where the settlements of Blackbridge and Pumpkin Hollow reside along the valley floor. The terrain is defined by a dense cluster of peaks including Cathead Mtn and Vly Mtn, separated by dramatic features like The Notch. This 2019 survey shows the transition from the high ridges of Wallace Mtn and Finch Mtn down to the southern hamlets of Upper Benson and Benson. To the west, the landscape is dotted with remote water bodies such as Three Ponds and Grant Lake, connected by a network of drainage brooks like Abner Brook and Hatch Brook. The presence of Lapland Lake Rd and State Campsite markers suggests the area's modern role in recreation within the Southern Adirondacks.
